Only Disease Management System Of Its Kind Is Installed In Nine Cities

MINNEAPOLIS, April 15, 1999 -- Chronimed Inc. (Nasdaq: CHMD), a leader in HIV/AIDS disease management, announced today that it has installed its proprietary Disease Early Warning System (DEWS) at 11 of its StatScript pharmacies in nine cities across the country. All of Chronimed's 29 StatScript pharmacies will have the system installed by the end of the calendar year. This clinical system monitors the progress of patients who are HIV positive, as they continue with their individualized medication regimens. These StatScript pharmacists follow patients who receive their prescriptions at the pharmacies, and report compliance patterns, lab information, current medication, and nutritional needs to the patients' physicians. StatScript's HIV-certified pharmacists provide an evaluation of the clinical condition, as well as recommendations.

Maury Taylor, Chronimed's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "This system represents Chronimed's first step in establishing a real-time, electronic linkage between providers responsible for the care of persons with HIV/AIDS. Allowing a patient's medical provider and pharmacist to review complex treatment results in an easy-to-read, consolidated format ensures these StatScript patients receive the best care in the industry. In addition, by using our secure network connections created by the Internet, we can provide this service for minimal incremental cost."

Henry F. Blissenbach, Pharm.D., president and chief operating officer of Chronimed, said, "This system embodies Chronimed's vision that integrating care is the most effective way to manage chronic diseases. Too often, a patient's care is fragmented with lab results recorded one place, office visits somewhere else and pharmaceutical usage data in yet another location. The Disease Early Warning System brings all this information together, and we are convinced that patients receiving their medication and counseling at our StatScript stores will enjoy a better quality of life, at reduced medical costs, due to enhanced monitoring of their conditions."
